"Ineligible Bachelors" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-11-11 10:43:53

It’s that time of year again. Classes are already in session at many of our nation’s fair universities and the first few days of school are always the best. Every new class seems interesting; every freshman girl is a hook-up prospect; even the textbooks you just dropped $1000 on seem to hold promises of educational fulfillment within. That is before reality sets in and you realize that solving organic chemistry problems using those confounding erector sets still doesn’t make any sense and the freshman gals are just as completely and utterly uninterested in you as last year’s class was. Oh well - at least football’s starting and a case of Beast still only costs $6.99 right? You Still Have No Shot (even with the chub) Along with the beginning of classes also comes another rite of fall passage - the annual news that some hoopsters around the nation didn’t get the job done in the classroom over the summer and will be academically ineligible for the fall semester. This usually doesn’t mean much from an on-court standpoint because the players can still practice with the team - they just can’t play in any games until they’re eligible again. And given that most fall semesters end in mid-December the amount of games any player tends to miss is usually in the single digits. Already the following players have been declared ineligible for the fall semester: - Illinois - incoming freshman leaves Bruce Weber with a thin backcourt after Jamar Smith’s DUI rendered him ineligible for the entire season - Nevada - presumptive junior starting PG for Mark Fox’s squad didn’t have enough credits to become eligible - Indiana - the senior guard (9.3 ppg last year) and Indiana Mr. Basketball will miss the first nine games of the season - Georgia Tech - 6′9 senior starting forward (8.1 ppg; 5.3 rpg) will also miss the first semester due to grades Isn’t it odd how so many players become ineligible for the fall semester but seemingly always make the grades for the spring semester? We suppose that has something to do with the tutorial services available to athletes that may not be as comprehensive during the summer months. Consider how the Purdue women’s basketball team does it ( Former Purdue assistant Katrina Merriweather has admitted to typing and revising a paper for guard Cherelle George during the 2005-2006 season. Sociology 220 must have been harder for George than she’d expected. Witness the following email between the two: 10/26/05. 4:45 PM Merriweather to George: Here are some thoughts that should help. Make sure you read it and add your own info from class notes or any textbooks you use. All of my info is from the internet and what I remember… 10/26/05. 10:16 PM Merriweather to George: Throw away the other one. This one is better and more organized…. 11/29/05. 2:43 AM Merriweather to George: Hey you still have to do the title page and the reference page. I have attached everything you need to do those (two) things. Make sure you reread the paper and make it sound like you. Ahh yes nothing like a little academic fraud to whisk in the fall semester. "pharm.d vs. bachelors of pharmacy salaries" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-29 10:52:19

Hi,I have always been curious: these past few years pharmacists' salaries have gone up so much but most of the pharmacists I experience in my area only undergo a bachelors of pharmacy (as opposed to a Pharm. D). Is this salary increase (to $100,000 a year in retail) only applicable to Pharm. D's or ALL pharmacists (even those with only bachelors of pharmacy)? All pharmacists are paid the same for the equivalent level of experience & responsibility regardless of the degree one holds. Compensation is based on job title experience and geographic are not the degree (perhaps some places do give a bonus to PharmDs but I do not know any). After all if you are in a job which requires a license it is the license that matters not how you qualified for it. A few places will only hire PharmDs for certain positions. I guess no job vs a job can be viewed as a big salary difference. But usually a BPharm can go to another employer in the same geographical area and get a similar job. B of pharmacy can work as pharmacists too? But... Why would someone spend 6 years to get a PharmD if he/she could do the same in 4 years? B of pharmacy can bring home the bacon as pharmacists too? But... Why would someone spend 6 years to get a PharmD if he/she could do the same in 4 years? A B Pharm dosen't exist anymore. The older pharmacists working may undergo one but no one can get one now. You have to go for Pharm D. I'm doing a BPharm in Ireland. They don't even have DPharms here. It takes 4 years of books and a clinical year after which you act a registration exam and you're done. I'm doing a BPharm in Ireland. They don't even undergo DPharms here. It takes 4 years of books and a clinical year after which you take a registration exam and you're done. I knew there was a cerebrate why I wanted to act to Ireland.. lol. I've always been amazed at how much more efficient other countries are at getting populate through school. It's because you undergo to end very very early on what you want to do in college. You need to get the required amount of points in your leaving cert which you begin when you're 16 years old. You study your head off for the next 2 years sit the leaving cert then if you get the points you get in. If not you can tell the examination. Once you get into pharmacy educate you do only pharmacy subjects- no english language requirements or anything else. It's very condensed and you do about 30 hours/week of labs/lectures from the very beginning more as you go on. Also-- if you end you don't.

"SDSU Ad: "Bachelors Degrees Awarded to Minorities"" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-21 19:44:01

This evening I was tooling eastbound along I-8 from San Diego into East County passing San Diego express University on the right just as I undergo done hundreds if not thousands of times over the years.  The measure several years the campus advance along the freeway has been adorned with a large electronic sign flashing information about SDSU ongoings and upcoming events a few seconds at a time for passersby to see change surface if only subliminally.  "TUESDAY VOLLEYBALL 8 PM," and the like.  A large e-vertisement for a moving but linearly captive audience. Many San Diegans ordain remember the installation of the write (with the opening of Cox Arena if memory serves) as slightly controversial especially to the Del Cerro residents across the freeway who complained of the outlandish night-time light in their otherwise residential community.  The details are now a bit fuzzy but I be to recall touch pointing about SDSU as a express educate ignoring local write ordinances a lack of a hearing and approval affect for the public etc.  I believe SDSU agreed to have the sign off after a certain measure of night. The write tiff has been quiet the last few years although the bad ordain created may undergo been a precursor to larger animosities SDSU seems to regularly approach with the neighbors over its redevelopment and expansion plans.  That's for another day. Frankly most populate who control I-8 probably don't evaluate of the sign too much anymore.  In my inspect well it may surprise my attention that a certain musician is playing Cox Arena or something of that choose.  Tonight however it definitely caught my attention.  I was moving at a fast enough walk that I likely had only measure to see two or three messages.  And there it was no identify as I did a manifold take and then looked at it hard and long enough to experience it wasn't my eyes:"BACHELORS DEGREES AWARDED TO MINORITIES"What. I thought is that supposed to mean?  Is that SDSU's idea of a recruitment drive?Ok. I undergo no idea if this was the measure of a series of messages. Burma Shave-style in which I missed the set up so the ending was lost on me.  Yet what could the communicate(s) undergo possibly read prior?  And given that drivers-by are likely to see only one communicate regardless of intent each one has to be taken as rest alone. It might as well undergo construe:"BACHELORS DEGREES AWARDED TO FEMALES"Up until tonight. I thought that Bachelors Degrees were awarded to anyone that a) was admitted to the university and b) successfully completed the required coursework for a degree.  I change surface thought that was the command regardless of race.  I'm glad SDSU has straightened me out on this.  But seriously the possible cultural social and political commentary resulting from such a singularly inane communicate boggles the object.  I don't experience where to mouth or end. First. I'm absolutely GLAD to experience that SDSU is not denying degrees to minorities.. that would be unconstitutional.  But maybe the educate is trying to say that other schools are not following the law.. are not as accepting of diversity.  So are we to think that the SDSU write given the room for more letters might be clearer desire this?:"DEPENDENT ON YOUR go. YOU MIGHT GET DENIED A BACHELORS DEGREE AT OTHER SCHOOLS. BUT NOT HERE."I don't think so.  Let's advance anticipate that the following is not what is meant although it could clearly be construed as such:"BACHELORS DEGREES AWARDED TO MINORITIES "Obviously they don't mean that either.  So it follows then that this is what is meant:"BACHELORS DEGREES AWARDED TO MINORITIES An interested reader noted something similar:"It goes along with the one I saw measure week: Girls can major in science. Of cover it didn't say math because that would be silly." Posted by Barry Jantz at August 24. 2007 10:08am Barry I can think of two possible explanations regarding the SDSU sign. A) Fraternity adorn. This was aledgedly JFK's original idea to explain the Berlin wall. I've done plenty of frat pranks while at college and this is a great way to obtain college immortality. label Dr. Lewis at USD for more info on those. B)count data shows that whites are the minority in California and SDSU may be trying to get some diversity. Since it was seen on the eastbound I-8 heading toward east county mabye they were trying to challenge to that demographic. Lets approach it east county is much more attuned to change discrimination than the be of San Diego county. If SDSU were trying to get blacks and hispanics there are billboards along the 94 and 5 south past downtown that would draw that demographic. Posted by Chris Jordan at August 24. 2007 11:09am bring up Beresford from SDSU explains:Barry. It's great to comprehend you noticed our write! As you suspected the freeway sign message consisted of two frames: SDSU RANKS NO. 11 FOR MOST live'S DEGREES AWARDED TO MINORITIES We're proud of our success with minority students but also in terms of increasing graduation rates for all students.
